Holy Spirit offers the latest in surgical procedures using state-of-the-art technology across a wide range of specialties. Highmark-Blue Shield recognized our commitment to quality care recently by designating Holy Spirit Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care, Knee and Hip Replacement and Spine Surgery.
Minimally Invasive/Robotic Surgery
Holy Spirit is on the forefront of minimally invasive surgery, which allows surgeons to operate through tiny incisions. Following minimally invasive procedures, patients have quicker recoveries, less post-operative pain and shorter hospital stays.
At Holy Spirit, you find outstanding surgeons using the latest in laparoscopic procedures and robotic surgery techniques and technology in many specialty areas, including gynecology, gynecologic oncology, urology, urogynecology and cardiothoracics. Our da Vinci Si® is the most advanced platform for minimally invasive surgery available today. This technology provides our surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach to many complex surgical procedures.
Among the many benefits of this technology:
• Shorter inpatient stays
• Substantially quicker recoveries
• A growing body of clinical evidence indicates robotics surgery delivers improved outcomes for some surgeries
• Reduced blood loss, length of stay and pain compared to open surgery
• Robotic surgery allows easier access to hard-to-reach areas
• A robotics program helps to attract and retain top surgeons
• It is the No. 1 surgical treatment for prostate cancer.
Holy Spirit Cardiovascular Institute and Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute recently signed a collaborative agreement for cardiac and thoracic surgery to have physicians from Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute provide world-class cardiothoracic surgery at The Ortenzio Heart Center at Holy Spirit. The agreement will optimize the use of existing, state-of-the art facilities in Camp Hill and Hershey, allowing physicians to be able to better meet the needs of the region’s residents, and expand the types of heart surgeries offered at The Ortenzio Heart Center at Holy Spirit.
Many gynecological conditions can be treated successfully using the da Vinci, such as treating infertility and endometriosis. Also, surgery aided by the da Vinci is a good option for pelvic floor repair, reverse tubal ligation and hysterectomy. However, the decision to perform gynecological surgery assisted by the da Vinci depends on the specifics of each woman’s problem and her doctor’s recommendation.
The da Vinci prostatectomy is the number one choice for treatment of localized prostate cancer in the United States. Surgeons use the precision, vision and control provided by the da Vinci to assist them in removing the cancerous prostate with minimal blood loss while preserving important nerves that control urinary function. Additionally, the da Vinci is used in the treatment of kidney cancer, specifically the precise removal of tumors and kidney reconstruction.
