Managing Pain Through Palliative Care
Palliative care offers expert assessment and care planning to control difficult symptoms associated with a serious illness such as severe pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, or uncontrolled nausea and vomiting.
Compassionate Palliative Care Starts with a Consultation
When a palliative care consultation is ordered, Geisinger Holy Spirit’s specially trained palliative care team of doctors, nurses, pastoral care workers and social workers will evaluate your medical situation, paying special attention to your pain and suffering.
These skilled team members will treat hard-to-manage symptoms through medical care, compassion and teamwork. They may suggest additional treatments or therapies to help with these symptoms. Your team members will also help you and your family understand the underlying medical problem while offering support with medical decisions.
Ask your doctor whether a palliative care consultation would be right for you or someone you love. For more information, please contact Geisinger Holy Spirit’s Palliative Care Department at 717-763-3048.
