On February 1, we began preparing for a major construction project that will expand the size and capabilities of our Emergency Department. We plan to build a two-story addition with a rooftop helipad onto the John R. Dietz Emergency Center to house a Level II Trauma Center. The project will also expand the number of treatment rooms in the Emergency Department and include a dedicated and secure Behavioral Health treatment area.
The first phase of this project will impact automobile and pedestrian traffic and parking.
Main entrance – will remain open; drive from helipad to top level of garage will be closed.
Patient access - all patients, including those needing to go to the ER, will be directed to enter the hospital through the Outpatient Entrance.
Garage – top level will be closed.
American Office Building and Spirit Urgent Care – the access drive will remain open.
Through-traffic –there will be no access through campus from 21st Street to Poplar Church Road.
CAT buses – will be rerouted through the front campus.
Senate House – those needing to go to or from the Senate House and hospital will need to walk through the second level of the parking garage and enter the hospital through the Receiving entrance.
EMS vehicles – will continue to use the hospital’s rear entrance on Poplar Church Road. Patients arriving by ambulance will be taken to the ER through this rear entrance. Patients will be taken through the corridor by Health Information Management, the Medical Library and the Hospitalists’ office and past the patient elevators. They will cross the corridor leading to The Hearth and continue on through the back hallway to the Emergency Department.
Physician parking – the top level of the parking garage will be closed, as well as the physician parking area in the rear of the hospital near the Medical Arts Building.
Employee/Physician Parking – Employees who usually park on the top level of the parking garage should park in lots A, B, C, D or K. Leadership staff should park in the Gannett Fleming lot. The rear portion of the second level of the parking garage will be designated for evening shift employees arriving after 11 a.m. Night shift employees should continue to park in Visitors’ Lot F (rows 4 through 6 – closest to the day care center). Physician parking will be designated in Lot F (row 1, previously used for valet parking). To ensure our patients and visitors have parking, please remember that employees shouldn’t park in the Visitors’ Lot F between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Thank you in advance for your patience.
