Holy Spirit’s Spirit of Women Program is hosting a lecture series for women called “Passport to Good Health.” This series of educational workshops is focused on common health concerns.
“We’ve structured each workshop to include not only women-centered education, but also a fun group activity, making it a true Spirit of Women event,” said Megan Atticks, Spirit of Women Coordinator. “The series is called Passport to Good Health because we wanted to inspire women to take an around-the-world journey to a healthier lifestyle.”
“Charting a Path Against Diabetes” will be held on Saturday, September 20, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will “land in Spain” to learn about diabetes, including personal risk factors and lifestyle changes. They will be treated to a cooking class focused on traditional Spanish cuisine but modified for healthy living.
On Saturday, October 18, we will “explore Italy” and the neurological conditions of Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, and seizure disorders in our lecture titled “Passport to the Nervous System,” which runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will also be able to participate in a restorative Tai Chi session, which has been shown to boost brain function.
“Your Destination for Preventing & Recognizing Gynecological Cancers” will be held on Saturday, November 15, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., where the final stamp on our passport happens in “France.” Here attendees will learn to recognize the early symptoms of deadly gynecological cancers. Our final overseas activity is a gentle Vinyasa yoga class. Though not French in origin, yoga’s physical, psychological, and emotional health benefits have been shown to successfully help treat women already diagnosed with cancer.
