One-on-one Diabetes Education Now Being Offered at Carlisle Center

Holy Spirit Diabetes Services is now offering individualized diabetes education at the Holy Spirit Carlisle Center. Mona Lemanski, RD, certified diabetes educator and licensed dietitian and nutritionist, will provide one-on-one education for people with pre-diabetes and diabetes. A physician’s referral is needed. Most insurance plans are accepted. To schedule a one-hour appointment, please contact Holy Spirit Diabetes Services at 763-2466.

Construction Begins on the Holy Spirit Progress Center

Holy Spirit Health System held an event last week commemorating the start of construction of the Holy Spirit Progress Center at 20 Capital Drive, Harrisburg. Holy Spirit will be consolidating several outpatient services at this facility, as well as opening its second sleep center. The four-bed sleep center will help physicians diagnose sleep disorders using the latest technology.

The awards program, created in 2000, is one of the first statewide programs of its kind in the country. The program is a public/private partnership between Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Central Penn Business Journal

Bereavement Support Group Offered

Holy Spirit Hospital’s Pastoral Care Department is offering a free Bereavement Support Group/Lecture Series for anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one.  It is also offered to those who care about friends who are grieving.  Various aspects of the grieving process will be discussed to help individuals understand how to cope with grief and how to develop skills necessary to turn their mourning into cherished memories of their loved ones.

Community Health Needs Assessement Report Unveiled

Three healthcare organizations — Holy Spirit Health System, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and PinnacleHealth System —chose to collaborate on a comprehensive community health needs assessment on behalf of the residents of Central Pennsylvania.  Each of the organizations has a long history of providing quality programs and services to people within the shared regional service area. This collaborative endeavor represented a willingness to work together to create a common resource to identify and understand community health needs, make the most of the community’s existing resources, use these common resources, and achieve economies of scale during the assessment phase.

Free Prostate Screenings to be offered in Camp Hill and Carlisle

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 6 men. Early detection could save lives. Holy Spirit Health System and Urology of Central Pennsylvania, Inc. are partnering with ZERO, the Project to End Prostate Cancer, to provide free prostate screenings on Wednesday, September 26. The free DRE and PSA screenings will be provided in a private exam room in a specially converted bus. Men can take advantage of these free screenings from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Camp Hill Center, 875 Poplar Church Road, Camp Hill, and from 1 to 4 p.m. at Target, 246 Westminster Drive, Carlisle. This screening is for men who are 40 years and older or any man who has a family history of prostate cancer. The screenings take about 10 minutes and no appointment is needed.

Coventry HealthAmerica and Holy Spirit Health System partner to improve care for chronic illnesses

Coventry HealthAmerica, a Coventry Health Care plan, and Holy Spirit Health System have formed a new physician partnership program that will improve management of diseases and access to care for Coventry HealthAmerica members, particularly those who suffer from chronic illnesses. The goal of the program, which Holy Spirit has successfully offered to other patients, is to improve patient health and quality of care. This will result in the added benefit of decreasing the need for emergency room visits and hospitalization for patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Holy Spirit Hospital Awarded an “A” for Patient Safety by Hospital Safety ScoreSM

Holy Spirit Hospital was honored with an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The Hospital Safety ScoreSM was calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. U.S. hospitals were assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their safety.
