Holy Spirit Hospital Now Performs TransOral Robotic Surgery
James P. Malone, MD, board-certified otolaryngologist with Associated Otolaryngologists of Pennsylvania, has begun performing TransOral Robotic Surgery at Holy Spirit Hospital. Last week, this minimally invasive robot-assisted surgery was used to successfully remove a cancerous tumor on the base of a patient’s tongue. Holy Spirit Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the greater Harrisburg region to offer this type of surgery.
Holy Spirit Hospital Awarded an “A” for Patient Safety by Hospital Safety Score
Holy Spirit Hospital was honored with an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The “A” score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM. The A, B, C, D or F scores assigned to U.S. hospitals is based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents, and infections. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.
Emergency Medicine Doctor Earns Fellowship Status
Rupen Modi, DO, MBA, FACEP, recently was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP). The distinction of FACEP is achieved only by select board-certified emergency physicians. This honor is awarded to emergency physicians that have made significant contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine and have demonstrated commitment to emergency medicine.
Understanding Medicare Educational Seminar to be Offered
Holy Spirit Health System and the APPRISE program of the Cumberland County Aging and Community Services will host a free educational seminar for Medicare beneficiaries, those who will soon become eligible, and their families on Tuesday, November 13, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. “Understanding Medicare” will be held in Holy Spirit Hospital’s Auditorium, 503 North 21st Street, Camp Hill. Parking is free.
Holy Spirit Hospital's Occupational Health Services and Travel Clinic Relocate
Holy Spirit Hospital’s Occupational Health Services and Travel Clinic have relocated from the hospital to the Medical Arts Building, 890 Poplar Church Road, Suite 100, Camp Hill.
Cardiac Patient Support Group Meeting to be held in November
Holy Spirit Hospital has teamed up with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and health professionals to provide cardiac health education, as well as group support to patients, their families, and caregivers to promote lifelong heart healthy living.
Holy Spirit’s Urgent Care Center and Data Center Are Under Construction
Holy Spirit Health System’s Spirit Urgent Care Center and Data Center are currently under construction. A ceremony was held onsite today at 431 North 21st Street, Camp Hill, to commemorate the start of construction. The following people made brief remarks: Bruce Brown, Chairperson, Holy Spirit Health System; Sister Romaine Niemeyer, SCC, President and CEO, Holy Spirit Health System; David Black, President and CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC; Edith Dees, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Holy Spirit Health System; and Rick Schaffner, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Holy Spirit Health System.
Fundraiser to Benefit The Birthplace
On Saturday, November 10, the Holy Spirit Hospital Auxiliary will host its 22nd annual Share the Spirit Gala at the West Shore Country Club. The Gala will begin at 6 p.m., and includes cocktails, dinner and dancing. A silent auction and raffle drawing will also be held. Entertainment will be provided by Pentagon. Black tie attire is optional.
Health Screenings and Flu Shots Offered in October
Holy Spirit Hospital offers free and low-cost health screenings to the public each month. Screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol ($5), colorectal, and glucose ($2). The screenings are offered in the hospital auditorium from 2 to 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. On October 3, from 2 to 6 p.m., flu shots will be offered to individuals 18 years of age and older for $26. Charges will be submitted for those with Medicare Part B. No appointment is necessary.
Bereavement Support Group Offered
Holy Spirit Hospital’s Pastoral Care Department is offering a free Bereavement Support Group/Lecture Series for anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one. It is also offered to those who care about friends who are grieving. Various aspects of the grieving process will be discussed to help individuals understand how to cope with grief and how to develop skills necessary to turn their mourning into cherished memories of their loved ones.
