Educational Seminar on Adolescent Self-Injury Offered
Holy Spirit Health System will host a free educational seminar on adolescent self-injury in June. Barry Sloane, MS, Teenline supervisor, will present “Self-Injury in Adolescents” on Thursday, June 21, at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held in Holy Spirit Hospital’s Auditorium.
“Taste of Sugar” Support Group Meetings Offered
Holy Spirit Diabetes Services offers a free monthly support group for people with pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their families. “A Taste of Sugar” meets on the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. in Wegman’s conference room. Holy Spirit Adds Vascular Practice
Three physicians from Vascular Associates, PC, have joined Holy Spirit Health System. John Calaitges, MD, Joseph Campbell, MD, FACS, and Richard Razzino, MD, are board certified, fellowship-trained vascular surgeons and experts in all diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of vascular disease.
Spirited Hearts Cardiac Support Group to Meet in October
Holy Spirit Hospital has teamed up with cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to provide cardiac health education, as well as group support to patients, their families, and caregivers to promote lifelong heart healthy living.
Dr. Richard Griffiths joins Holy Spirit’s Kunkel Surgical Group
Richard L. Griffiths, DO, joins Drs. Paul Kunkel, J. Bret DeLone, Salvatore Parascandola and Chinh Pham at Holy Spirit’s Kunkel Surgical Group on October 1. Dr. Griffiths will continue to practice at his current office at One Tyler Court, Carlisle, and will care for patients at Holy Spirit Hospital and at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. The Kunkel Surgical Group also has an office at the Medical Arts Building, 890 Poplar Church Road, Camp Hill. All five surgeons will see patients at both office locations.
Educational Seminar on Childhood and Adolescent Depression Offered
Holy Spirit Health System will host a free educational seminar on childhood and adolescent depression in May. Barry Sloane, MS, Teenline supervisor, and Sandy Gates, MSW, LSW, Teenline counselor, will present "Recognizing Depression in Children and Adolescents" on Thursday, May 19, at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held in Holy Spirit Hospital's Auditorium.
New Endoscopy Center Opens in Camp Hill
For people over age 50, colonoscopy may be a scary word. Even those who know they should get this preventive screening that detects colon and rectal cancer often don't follow through. Many people say the preparation is unpleasant or the procedure makes them nervous. Some fail to be screened because they have no health insurance coverage or simply can't find time for the appointment. And some patients don't know the screening is necessary. "Colonoscopy is currently the most accurate and most complete method for examining the colon," explains Chinh Pham, MD, FACS, with Kunkel Surgical Group, a service of Holy Spirit Health System. "It allows doctors to biopsy and remove polyps. Left in place, polyps can develop into cancer."
