Holy Spirit Earns Top Rating for Heart Surgery

Posted: 30 August 2011

Holy Spirit Hospital earned the top rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for the quality of its heart surgery program.

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) uses a comprehensive rating system to determine the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the country. “STS analyzed national data from January 1 through December 31, 2010 and ranked the performance of our heart surgery program in the highest tier, a three-star rating,” says Joseph Torchia, MD, chief medical officer at Holy Spirit Hospital. Only 12 to 15 percent of hospitals nationwide received this three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality.

Holy Spirit’s board-certified cardiothoracic surgeons practice at Cardiovascular Surgical Institute, Camp Hill. Christine McCarty, MD; John Pennock, MD; and Vincent Park, MD, perform heart, lung, chest and vascular surgeries at The Ortenzio Heart Center at Holy Spirit.
