<p>Holy Spirit Diabetes Services is offering “Building a Healthy Life with Diabetes” group classes for those interested in learning more about how to manage their diabetes.</p>

<p>The group classes will provide attendees with information and support from the educator and their peers as they learn to successfully manage their diabetes. The classes will cover:</p>

<ul>
<li>The basics of diabetes, blood glucose testing, and A1c</li>
<li>Heart disease, lipids, and blood pressure</li>
<li>The importance of exercise and physical activity</li>
<li>Carbohydrate counting, label reading, and tips for eating out</li>
<li>Weight management and practical ways to eat a well-balanced diet</li>
<li>Diabetes medications, high/low blood glucose management, and sick days</li>
<li>Care of eyes, skin, feet, and mouth</li>
<li>Goal setting and achieving effective behavior changes</li>
</ul>

<p>Classes are offered in a four-week series at two different times: Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. To register for the “Building a Healthy Life with Diabetes” group classes, please call 717-763-2466.</p>

<p>Holy Spirit Hospital and the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) are hosting a professional enrichment conference entitled “Because You’ve Never Died Before.” The conference will be held on Friday, June 6, from 8:45 a.m. until 4 p.m., in the Holy Spirit Hospital Auditorium, Camp Hill, Pa.</p>

<p>Kathleen J. Rusnak, Ph.D., will be speaking about her multi-cultural research that provides insight into the response of those who learn they have a terminal illness.&nbsp; This conference will provide attendees with valuable information that they can use to communicate better with someone who is facing the end of life.</p>

<p>The conference costs $50 and includes continental breakfast and lunch. Registration and the breakfast will be held from 8 to 8:45 a.m., followed by the program.</p>

<p>Chaplains can earn 5.5 continuing education credit hours, and nursing continuing education credit hours are available.</p>

<p>Holy Spirit Diabetes Services offers a free monthly support group for people with pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their families. “A Taste of Sugar” meets on the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. in Wegman’s conference room. <p>Holy Spirit Health System offers a free support group for those who have experienced miscarriage, pregnancy loss, or the death of a child. “Child of My Heart” meets on the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The support group is led by a nurse practitioner from Holy Spirit Hospital’s Behavioral Health department. Mothers can bring their babies up to 15 months old. “Mom’s Place” is for women who feel overwhelmed, sad, worried, or need extra support. “Mom’s Place” meets every Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 20 Erford Road, Suite 11, Lemoyne.</p>

<p>“Mom’s Place” is led by a clinician from Holy Spirit Hospital’s Behavioral Health department. The group is educational, supportive, and fun. Light refreshments are provided. “Mom’s Place” also hosts family night where women can bring partners or spouses. For more information, please call 763-2200.</p>
