Holy Spirit Diabetes Services is offering “Building a Healthy Life with Diabetes” group classes for those interested in learning more about how to manage their diabetes.

The group classes will provide attendees with information and support from the educator and their peers as they learn to successfully manage their diabetes. The classes will cover:

  • The basics of diabetes, blood glucose testing, and A1c
  • Heart disease, lipids, and blood pressure
  • The importance of exercise and physical activity
  • Carbohydrate counting, label reading, and tips for eating out
  • Weight management and practical ways to eat a well-balanced diet
  • Diabetes medications, high/low blood glucose management, and sick days
  • Care of eyes, skin, feet, and mouth
  • Goal setting and achieving effective behavior changes

Classes are offered in a four-week series at two different times: Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. To register for the “Building a Healthy Life with Diabetes” group classes, please call 717-763-2466.

Classes may be covered by your insurance. Interested individuals should contact their insurance provider to see if this class is covered.

 
 

Holy Spirit offers FREE blood pressure screenings at the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library, 100 North 19th Street, Camp Hill, each Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Join Holy Spirit every Monday at the Colonial Park Mall from 8 a.m. to noon for free blood pressure screenings. Keep active while avoiding the winter chills and summer heat through mall walking. The program is designed to provide a secure and healthy walking environment to keep your body moving. Walkers are welcome anytime the mall is open.  Also, enjoy access to Holy Spirit health screenings and special events throughout the year.

Holy Spirit Diabetes Services offers a free monthly support group for people with pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their families. “A Touch of Sugar” meets on the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. in Wegman’s, located on Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg. Meeting are held in the conference room located in the back of the dining area. No registration is necessary. For more information, please contact Holy Spirit Diabetes Services at 763-2466.

 

Holy Spirit Health System offers a free support group for those who have experienced miscarriage, pregnancy loss, or the death of a child. “Child of My Heart” meets on the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The support group is led by a nurse practitioner from Holy Spirit Hospital’s Behavioral Health department.
