Educational Seminar on Childhood and Adolescent Depression Offered

Posted: 16 May 2011

Holy Spirit Health System will host a free educational seminar on childhood and adolescent depression in May. Barry Sloane, MS, Teenline supervisor, and Sandy Gates, MSW, LSW, Teenline counselor, will present "Recognizing Depression in Children and Adolescents" on Thursday, May 19, at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held in Holy Spirit Hospital's Auditorium.

Depression is a commonly occurring disorder in childhood and adolescence. But, nearly two thirds of all young people do not seek help for mental health problems. The stigma is what keeps many people from seeking the help they need. Sloane and Gates will address the causes of depression, common symptoms, suicide risk factors and warning signs, seeking help and treatment and prevention.

There is no need to register. Light refreshments will be served. If you have questions, please call 763-2900.
